Watercolor by John Pike N.A., A.W.S. (1981 German Version)

At last, a new, enlarged edition of one of the most popular watercolor books ever written, by one of America's most popular artists. This edition has 48 pages of completely new step-by-step demonstrations, including 8 new full color plates.

Based on the course of study at Pike's renowned watercolor school in Woodstock, New York, the book clearly and systematically instructs the reader on the techniques, tools, and materials of the craft.

In the chapters on materials and tools, the author analyzes papers, brushes, colors, recommended palettes, outdoor painting equipment, etc. He demonstrates what various painting tools can do; shows how to produce a variety of washes, brush-strokes, and textures; and tells the reader about the various technical secrets for which the author is renowned.

Step by step, Mr. Pike treats the various watercolor methods (wash, wet-in-wet, drybrush, etc.). In a striking series of pictorial demonstrations, the reader is led from the simplest still life exercises into a series of landscape problems. He is encouraged to try similar projects in which he applies the techniques analyzed in the demonstrations.

Watercolor, in the new, enlarged edition, is abundantly illustrated with the author's own famous paintings in color and halftone, each analyzed in detail for technical lessons and tricks of the trade.
